Attend a Retirement Planning Class
The Retirement Department offers multiple sessions of a 2.5-hour class designed to help you plan for your retirement. This class is recommended for employees within five years of retirement, allowing plenty of time to make plans or decisions that could impact the amount of your lifetime retirement income.
We will help you answer such questions as:
- When can I retire?
- What does 3% at 60, or 3% at 50 mean?
- Does the salary I earn make a difference? How does SCERA determine my highest compensation?
- What happens with my sick leave and vacation time?
- What is service credit? Can I do anything to add to my service credit?
- What are the steps in the retirement process? What documents do I need to submit?
- As a retiree, how often will I be paid?
- Will I pay taxes on my benefit?
- Will my beneficiary receive anything after my death?
The class will wrap up with a demonstration on using the on-line Retirement Calculator.
