Ethics & Fraud Reporting

The Sonoma County Employees’ Retirement Association (SCERA) Board of Retirement and management are committed to maintaining the highest standards of ethical and legal conduct and to ensuring the responsible stewardship of public funds.

Members, service providers, participating employers, and members of the public are encouraged to report any activities they believe may be illegal, unethical, or dishonest. Examples of reportable activities include, but are not limited to:

• Violations of federal, state, or local laws
• Fraudulent financial reporting
• Theft or misappropriation of assets
• Misuse of public resources or funds

SCERA will make every reasonable effort to maintain the confidentiality of the reporting individual’s identity. However, information may be shared with those who have a legitimate need to know in order to conduct a thorough investigation. SCERA strictly prohibits retaliation against any individual who reports a concern in good faith.

SCERA and County employees who report concerns are protected under the California Whistleblower Protection laws, including California Labor Code sections 1102.5 and 1106. Individuals may also contact the California State Attorney General’s Whistleblower Hotline at (800) 952-5225.
