This part of the SCERA website focuses on the issues important to you before your retirement--whether you are newly hired, in the midst of your career, or late in your career. At any of these stages you can be thinking about what comes next. Your own retirement is an integral part of the plan.

SCERA provides you with a defined benefit plan. Once you have reached retirement eligibility and apply for retirement, your future lifetime benefit is determined by a formula that is based on three factors: your age at retirement, your highest average compensation, and your total service credit. The various pages on this site will help you understand this formula, each of the three factors, and much more.
